Oak Ridge School in New Madrid County abt 1928
Oak Ridge School in New Madrid abt 1928
County
The little girl, second from the left in the dark coat is my mother,
Irene Alma Willoughby. Her brother, Eugene Lee Willoughby is also in the
picture. I don't know which boy he is. Their parents were Ardell Hobson
and Edna Mae (Gamble) Willoughby. I have the picture here in Florida and
I will be seeing my mother in June and I will take it with me to have her
identify her brother. She will be 81 this year and she seems to think
the picture was taken maybe 1928 or 1929. Mom said the teachers name was
Miss Patterson. I found a Gertrude Patterson, age 21 living as a boarder
with the Robert M. Stevenson family in the Como Township in 1930. I
don't know if Gertrude was her teacher or not.
I am looking for information about the Oak Ridge School in New Madrid
County. My mother, Irene A.Willoughby attended the school about 1928 or
1929 when she was 5 or 6 years old. I have a picture of the class, well
most of the class, because the picture has been torn. Mom remembers the
teacher's name was Miss Patterson. She remembers it being a one room
school and from the background, it looks like the building was made of
brick. Does the building still exist and what city was the school
located?
After attending Oak Ridge for a couple of years, she went to another
school that she thought was in Riscoe. She was living in Como with her
grandparents, Richard 'Dick' and Mattie Gamble at the time and rode the
school bus. She said she thought it was a grade school and high school.
Would anyone know the name of this school, where it was located and if
the building still exists?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
