Surnames DUKE
Comments:
I have a copy of a card that reads:

Dr. R. A. Duke, dealer in drugs and medicines, toilet and
fancy goods, &etc, main street, New Madrid, Mo.

This is Robert Allen Duke and the time period would
be the 1870s. One reference says his son, Greene
Wesley Duke, was born 12/25/1873 in New Madrid but
another reference disagrees. I have a picture of
him and his wife which is supposedly taken in New
Madrid.

Robert Allen Duke graduated from the University of Nashville
(later merged with Vanderbilt University) in 1866.

Any help will be appreciated. I will be happy to send
a copy of the above card to anyone interested.

Surnames SUMMERS , ALFORD
Comments:
I have hit a brick wall on two of the lines I am researching from New Madrid .The families are not connected as far as I know and both were rather prominent .

John Summers who came with Col. John Morgan from Va. to New Madrid . He is listed in New Madrid in 1796 , do not know when they arrived .
His wife was Sarah and Ch. William , Alexander , Isabelle (m ----- Hyde ) , Charlotte , Rebecca Summers m. Tensant Gilbow ( Toussaint Guilbout originally ) & Andrew . Andrew m. Elizabeth Ruddell . Andrew & Alexander settled in Cape Girardeau Dist . abt. 1797 . For them to leave home in 1797 I would assume they were grown and married so places them being born 1760/70,s . I can not find anything futher , hopefully some one else out there is working on this line .

Ethan Allen Alford was b. 12 March 1800 Lake Cayuga , Seneca Co.New York . He m. Victoria Godane ( ? spelling not sure of )1823 in Pa. They came to New Madrid 12 Dec. 1823 on a boat on the Mississippi River. I would assume because his older brother George Alford was there and was presiding justice of New Madrid Co.at that time .
They had 4 ch.all born New Madrid
George Alford b. 1 Jan 1826 New Madrid .
Nelson Alford b. 1 Jan. 1829 .
Harriet Alford b. 15 May 1832 m. John B. Pasquine .d 1852
Amanda M. Alford b. 19 Nov. 1834 m. John D. Pasquine after her sisters death and then Joseph D. Stine .Amanda,s father died when Amanda way very young .
I have been told that Victoria Godane Alford , mother to these ch. married after her husbands death but I have found no records on a 2nd. marriage .
Hopefully some one out there is descended to some of this line and will get back to me .
Certainly appreciate it .
Catherine

I would like information on George Henry ONSTED. The only information I have is he was born 3 February 1841 in Michigan, and he died 13 April 1862 in New Madrid. He was a soldier in the war of the rebellion.
I am hoping for an obituary. I'd like to know if he's buried in New Madrid and if he ever married.
Any information on George will be much appreciated. If there is a charge, let me know.
Thanks,
Jo Ann

Looking for information on family of Eliza Elizabeth McDonald. The name Salsgiver is also associated with her. I believe Alice Salisgiver was her mother. She is also buried in Mt. Vernon, IL. Her birth date was 7/16/1864 and date of death was 8/28/1940. She would have been born 4/7/1901. She died in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, late 1980 or early 1990. I believe she was born in Malden, MO and there abouts. Any help would be much appreciated.
